On January 28, 2001, I didn't want to come around that corner.
On January 27, 2001, 10 members of the Oklahoma State University family died in a plane crash in Colorado.
Kendall was on that plane.
He was my first real boss at my first real job.
He wore pocket tees with holes in them.
He had a ball cap with "FOG" on it. (Foghat. Get it?)
I got some of my favorite quotes from him. I can still picture his drunk, squinty-eyed face as he gestured with his Kool, "Take a picture of ME!" and "Chicken make lousy house-pet."
At his funeral, our friend EB came up to me and said, "That crazy Kendall." He was right. Crazy Kendall. I miss you.

We won't be in Stillwater this year for the run, but here are a couple of photos from last year.

What a great rememberance you're giving Kendall. I remember years ago laying in bed watching TV in disblief of what had happened. Kendall sounds like he was a great guy!
ReplyDeleteI remember Kendall well. He was one of the only people at ETS when I was an intern who didn't act like he was better than I was. Seems odd that it's been 7 years. Seems odd that it ever happened. I miss him, too. I can still remember Eddie coming on TV to give us the news. He looked so drained.
ReplyDeleteYes, it was a cold night that night as January often is...but, for me, around 12:30 or 1 got even colder. That's when our car caravan heard the news. It was a long ride back from Tulsa not knowing all the details. And then knowing them. Rest in peace -- all. kelinokc.
ReplyDeleteHow sad.
ReplyDeleteRIP Kendall. I bet you were a cool dude.
