Murphy went with us.

Yesterday was a doozie.

It started out okay. The Boy and I were making pancakes into odd shapes and I attempted to make the number ten (for his age). I ended up with a legless turkey.

Then, we got in the car and headed north to get a replacement lens for my glasses. (I was cleaning them one day and TINK! a small chunk broke off right next to my earpiece. Luckily, there is a one year warranty and so they ordered a new lens for me.)

I got my glasses at a small department store's eyecare place. I really like the store. It is kinda like K-Mart's more sophisticated older sister.

Anywho...The lady put my new lens in and I walked back to the toys to fetch the boy. We wandered toward the front of the store and I noticed I already had something on my new lens. I took my glasses of to check and there was a crack in the lens!

I went back to the eyecare place and let the lady have a look-see. We both agreed that it wasn't in the lens when she put it in, but it sure was there now.

I asked her to put the other lens back in since the piece that was missing didn't interfere with my vision, but the new crack sure did.

We got back into the car and headed to sprawlmart for another gallon of paint for the deck.

Wouldn't you know it? Dutch Boy is not longer making the accent base. How special is that? The paint manager told me a different store had three gallons left and if went to that store (An hour and a half from where I was.), and couldn't get any, come back and they would try to match as close as they could and if I bought a gallon, they wouldgive me a gallon for free to make up for the gallon we used. While that was nice and all, we really don't want to repaint what we have painted. We are headed down to Ames tomorrow so maybe we can look at the store there.

In case you are wondering why we are going to Ames? We are going to visit that tall boy in the above photo and wish him a happy 20th birthday! And take him presents! And food! And buy him supper! (Red Lobster hates to see him on All You Can Eat Shrimp Night.)

Let us take a moment to remember him when...

Strange

It is eerily quiet in the house this morning.

The dogs are in the kennel and The Boy is at his Grandma's house. It is just me and The Commander. (I know what you're thinking, but we are both getting over the flu and anything more strenuous than drinking a glass of water wears us out.)

We drove up to Minneapolis last night to pick Shorty's girlfriend up from the airport. It was her first flight ever and she was a little nervous, but she said as they got going, it wasn't too bad. The poor child flew up from a balmy 80 degree Oklahoma to a chilly 31 degree Iowa and totally forgot to bring her coat. She wasn't too thrilled this morning when I told her we were expecting 1-2 inches of snow tomorrow.

We didn't get back home until around midnight last night and Shorty had to be back at Iowa State this morning at eight to rehearse something the Cadets are doing at dinner tonight. The left about five. Yick. I woke up, wished them safe driving and went back to sleep. I'm not dummy. We are going to leave around lunch time today. I have to get my hair "did" at 11.

I'll try to put a photo or two up here sometime next week of us in our finery. The guys will be wearing their military uniforms and we hot chicks will be in fancy dresses.

I KNOW!

______________

I have made a couple of more recipes that I have really liked.

I made Cinnamon Coffee Cake for church the other day. Very easy and very good.

But the one I'm most excited about was Lemon Chicken. Lemon Chicken is one of my top three things to eat at Chinese restaurants so I thought I would give it a try. I wish I would have battered and fried the chicken like in the restaurants, but this was very, very tasty.

Input needed.

We have a predicament.

We have an event for each of the boys scheduled on the same day.

The Oldest has his ROTC's Military Ball and he has invited The Commander and me. His girlfriend will be flying up to join us as well.

The Boy has his Cub Scout's Blue and Gold Banquet that day too.

He's gonna kill me for telling you this.

Shorty came home from university yesterday for winter break. (Yea!) I knew he had been stressed with his finals (He had an online Trigonometry class that was eating his lunch.), but I didn't realize how that stress, on top of him being a male, would affect him.

Remember those SEVENTEEN rolls of wrapping paper? Those play an important part in this story.

He went into his bedroom and started wrapping Christmas presents he had brought home. After he had everything wrapped and was relaxing on the couch, I walked by the tree and saw a couple of packages had been wrapped in some paper I had purchased years ago for The Boy to wrap his presents to Daddy. How do I know this? Simple. The paper has stick figures on it and childlike writing that says "I Love My Daddy".

I chuckled that he would pick that paper to wrap the presents to his dad in that paper. Closer inspection showed that the presents weren't to his dad. They were for his aunts. Of course, I had to point out his mistake.

He had no idea that the paper was "Daddy" paper. "There are seventeen rolls of paper in there! Why did you pick that one?" "It was blue! I like blue!" I asked if he was going to re-wrap the presents. He said had wrapped the once, he's not doing it again. :)

To make me smile even bigger, he also had wrapped a present for his mom in the same paper!

*We were leaving the hospital the other night (Aunt had both knees replaced.) and we had to stop in the lobby while The Boy had went to use the restroom. The Commander went out to get the car and pull it up to the pick up area. After a bit, I saw the car pull up and told Shorty that he was here. I thought to myself "That was quick." Shorty went out the door to get into the car. The Boy came out of the restroom and we walked outside. There stood Shorty looking sheepish. He then turned around, opened the back door of the car and shut it a little better. About that time, my brain said, "That's not our car." Uh-oh.

Someone had the same kind and color of car!

Shorty had opened the door, started to get in and then saw a car seat in the back seat. Oops! Luckily no one saw him.

Poor kid.
