Why I like Rat

Click to biggify.

Wow. It's been that long?

12 years. Who'd a thunk it?

Last Anniversary was spent at his mobilization ceremony. (I don't know why it is called a "ceremony". They need to call it "A meeting where fluff is said and everyone's heart is ripped out, thrown to the ground, and stomped on with those huge military boots.") Then he bought me a car, so it kinda evened out.

This Anniversary, I get to go down and see him! He asked last night what I wanted to do and I couldn't think of anything. Just being with him will be good. If he wants to take me somewhere and buy me stuff...I'm not gonna ruin his happiness by telling him "no". That's how nice I am. I'm a giver.

That's MRS. Dirty Charity Vane to you.

My pirate name is:

Dirty Charity Vane

You're the pirate everyone else wants to throw in the ocean -- not to get rid of you, you understand; just to get rid of the smell. You tend to blend into the background occaisionally, but that's okay, because it's much easier to sneak up on people and disembowel them that way. Arr!

Friday Boast Post

Don't jinx it, but I had to sign a consent form for the boy to be tested for enrichment at school. His teacher told me he is really smart and that he could really benefit from it. She apologized to me because he gets bored in class. Woot! Test away, people!
{{{Fingers Crossed!}}}

Of course while I was filling out the form, I messed up on the address part. Figures.

Do I know you?

Dear Mixmania Friend,

Have we met? 'Cause some pretty freaky-freakiness happened when I got my CD yesterday...

I ran home from work to change clothes before going bowling. My CD was in the mailbox. Woot. I ripped the card off of the front and zoinks! the picture on it is a woman bowling!

And then? the cool protective cardboard was cut from my favorite box of cereal - Honey Bunches of Oats w/Almonds.

I popped the CD into the player and listened on my way to the bowling alley. Bridge over Troubled Waters! One of my faves. Never heard Johnny Cash sing it before though. Liked it.

Listened some more on the way home and then took it to my bedroom to listen to as I fell asleep. Naked Eyes. Always Something There to Remind Me. I ab-so-freakin'-lootly love this song. I included it on the one I sent out. But wait! America the Beautiful by Ray Charles. Also on the one I sent out.

I was thrilled with my CD. I didn't recognize all of the songs, but I knew most of the artists.

Thank you!

My Mix

9/11 Mix Mania

2,996 people died five years ago. It isn’t those people I think about when I think about that day. I think about the ones left behind. For every one of those 2,996 people who died, there are loved ones still here - parents, brothers, sisters, wives, husbands, kids, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Countless people touched by that day.

This CD is for them.

1. You Are My Sunshine – Ray Charles
When my son was born, this is the song I sang to him every night. He is my sunshine and I can’t imagine him ever being gone.

2. He Was in Heaven Before He Died – John Prine
“A person can’t tell his best friend he loves him.” Do so. Every day.

3. Photographs & Memories – Jim Croce

4. Every Mother’s Son – Matt Dusk

5. There You’ll Be – Faith Hill

6. Birdhouse in Your Soul – They Might Be Giants
An odd song to choose, but I like it.

7. Always Something There to Remind Me – Naked Eyes
This is one of my most favorite songs ever.

8. My Favorite Memory – Merle Haggard

9. How High Did You Go? – John Conlee
How do you want to be remembered?

10. Return to Me – Dean Martin
I love the song and I really love the movie. I don’t cry at movies much, but I cry at least three times each time I watch it.

11. Painter Song – Norah Jones

12. Seasons of Love – Rent
How do you measure a year in the life?

13. Hold On - R. Kelly

14. Shower The People You Love – James Taylor

15. If Tomorrow Never Comes – Garth Brooks

16. Let The Day Begin – The Call
I love this song. The Boy likes it too.

17. America The Beautiful – Ray Charles
It is.

At Dick's Automotive

Me and the boy were on our way home from grocery shopping last night when I saw a deer standing next to a telephone pole.

Me - A deer!
Boy - Where?
Me - We passed it. I'll turn around and go back.

We get back to where the deer was and since there were no other cars around, I stopped so we could gawk. (It isn't like we don't ever see wildlife. The things are everywhere. But we like to say hi and scare the bejesus out of them.) The deer was still there and a little further back was a wee baby deer. Cool!

We drove on, turned around and started back. I slowed down when we got near the deer sighting area. The baby was still there, but the bigger deer was gone.

Hmmmm...reminded me of a song.

Me - MOMMY DEER. DEAD. BABY DEER. ALIVE.
Boy - MooooOOOOOoooooom

heheheheheh

WooHoo! The County Fair!

The Good
Pineapple Whip

The Bad
Ticket Prices

The Ugly
OMG The Ugly. Where do these people come from? You never see them any other day of the year (thank goodness). I saw a lady pushing a stroller with a 3 year old(ish) little girl in it. The woman had on a shirt that said "Very Kissable" on the front. So, I glanced up to see what was so kissable about her. I immediately took off my glasses and made jabbing motions toward my eyeballs. My friend D started laughing and said, "I was wondering why you took your glasses off." I told her I was trying to jab my eyes out to erase the image I just saw. This woman could have been anywhere from 30 to 70 years old. She was slim, but that was about the only thing going for her. She had bright blue eyeshadow troweled on her lids. Her eyebrow was pierced with I don't know what kind of jewelry hanging off of it. Very bleached hair. I don't think that color occurs naturally anywhere on Earth. A cigarette precariously hanging from her lips as she is trying to talk to the little girl. And the wrinkles. OMG the wrinkles.

I must go jab at my eyeballs some more.

Theatre (that's with an "re") Snob

I'm am so psyched over going to NYC. I'm hoping we can get tickets to something on Broadway. The Commander is a GINORMOUS Phantom of The Opera fan. (Don't tell him I told you.)

Cats is are is coming to Tulsa. I might take the boys to see it. I'll have to squeeze it in between Orchestra, Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Cross Country. Not a prob.

I bought season tickets the other night. They rock. I used to have season tickets every year, but I've slacked the past couple. But now? I'm back. Some of their work I have enjoyed - Pirates of Penzance, Medea, Rumors, Dolls House, Comed of Errors, Two Gentlemen of Verona, and The Mikado. They did a smash-up (see? snob word useage) job with Verona and Mikado.

We are going to OKC to see The Rock and The Rabbi next month.

And in October? Sweeney Todd! I won't take the kiddos to that, but I've already bought the tickets. Wanna go with me?

High tea in the parlor makes the ladies holla.

Toot! Toot!

Here's how our Monday evening goes.

Pick up the boy from after school care.
Run home, change clothes, go to the bowling alley.
Feed boy (yes, at the bowling alley. shut up)
Babysitter comes and picks up boy.
I bowl.
They do whatever (park, library, store, etc) and we meet back up at our house.

One of our work-studies has been wanting to babysit, but she had classes on Monday night. This semester? Golden!

She has an unusual name and the boy had the hardest time remembering it.

BB - {whispers} What's her name?
Me - "Name goes here"
Babysitter - You can just call me "T".
BB - Can I call you "Tootie McToot-Toot"?
Babysitter - Uhhhh. Okay.

He has now told me to find something to do so Tootie came come and watch him. MY KID IS KICKING ME OUT OF THE HOUSE SO HE CAN HANG WITH THE BABYSITTER!

Should I be offended?

*Tootie is not her name. It's not even close.

WTF? Wednesday

One of the things that makes SHERRYPG say, "WTF?"

Pepsi Jizz Jazz Strawberries and Cream.

Ick. Yuck. Blech. Nasty.

Dear Pepsi,

Seriously, did you have a taste panel for this? Or did you just think to yourself, "Self, this sounds like a winning combination. Let's do it."? 'Cause it tastes crappy.

For reals.

I have an announcement

Aack. Shorty's turning 16! Just yesterday he was my little 4-year-old ring bearer. Now he's my 5' 11 1/2" driving down the road teenager! Wha happ'n?

He's going to Carnegie Hall next spring. (I'm going too! As an audience member not a chaperone, thankyouverymuch.)

He's going to be an Eagle Scout.

But he still isn't too bershon to play with his little brother.

I heart him. Now wish him a Happy Birthday!

I heard this at church...

Three churches, right next door to each other, were having problems with squirrels.

The first church removed all of the food from the kitchen and the squirrels left. But they had to have food in the church for fellowship and such, so the food came back, and so did the squirrels.

The second church trapped all of the squirrels, painted their tails red, and took them far out into the country and dumped them. But the squirrels managed to find their way back.

The third church pretty solved the problem. They trapped all of the squirrels, baptised them and made them members of the church, and now they only show up at Christmas and Easter.

(or something to that effect. I'm a bad joke rememberer)

From my friend PNELLE. I miss you!

New Rules by George Carlin

New Rule #1 : Stop giving me that pop-up ad for classmates.com. There's a reason you don't talk to people for 25 years. Because you don't particularly like them! Besides, I already know what the captain of the football team is doing these days: mowing my lawn.

New Rule #2 : Don't eat anything that's served to you out a window unless you're a seagull. People are acting all shocked that a human finger was found in a bowl of Wendy's chili . Hey, it cost less than a dollar. What did you expect it to contain? Trout?

New Rule #3 : Stop saying that teenage boys who have sex with their hot, blonde teachers are permanently damaged. I have a better description for these kids: lucky bastards.

New Rule #4 : If you need to shave and you still collect baseball cards, you're a dope. If you're a kid, the cards are keepsakes of your idols. If you're a grown man, they're pictures of men.

New Rule #5 : Ladies, leave your eyebrows alone. Here's how much men care about your eyebrows: Do you have two of them? Okay, we're done.

New Rule #6 : There's no such thing as flavored water. There's a whole aisle of this crap at the supermarket, water, but without that watery taste. Sorry, but flavored water is called a soft drink. You want flavored water? Pour some scotch over ice and let it melt. That's your flavored water.

New Rule #7 : The more complicated the Starbucks order, the bigger the ass hole. If you walk into a Starbucks and order a "decaf grande half-soy, half-low fat, iced vanilla, double-shot, gingerbread cappuccino, extra dry, light ice, with one Sweet-n'-Low and one NutraSweet," ooh, you're a huge ass hole.

New Rule #8 : I'm not the cashier! By the time I look up from sliding my card, entering my PIN number, pressing "Enter," verifying the amount, deciding, no, I don't want cash back, and pressing "Enter" again, the kid who is supposed to be ringing me up is standing there eating my Almond Joy.

New Rule #9 : Just because your tattoo has Chinese characters in it doesn't make you spiritual. It's right above the crack of your ass. And it translates to "beef with broccoli." The last time you did anything spiritual, you were praying to God you weren't pregnant. You're not spiritual. You're just high, stupid, or both.

New Rule #10 : Competitive eating isn't a sport. It's one of the seven deadly sins. ESPN recently televised the US Open of Competitive Eating, because watching those athletes at the poker table was just too damned exciting. What's next, competitive farting? Oh wait. They're already doing that. It's called "The Howard Stern Show."

New Rule #11 : I don't need a bigger mega M&M. If I'm extra hungry for M&Ms, I'll go nuts and eat two.

New Rule #12 : No more gift registries. You know, it used to be just for weddings. Now it's for babies and new homes and graduations from rehab. Picking out the stuff you want and having other people buy it for you isn't gift giving, it's the white people version of looting.

Freaky Freaky

The Marching Band practices in front of the Stupid Onion Student Union every morning. I love marching bands.

Just now as I came out of the SU, the University's President and his Right Hand Man were leaving as well. So as I am walking back to my building, the President is on my left, the marching band is further on to the left playing the Fight Song, and just as they are ending the song, the Library Bell Tower to my right starts playing the Alma Mater.

A trifecta?

Awwww and Gaaaack!

First of all...Look what the Commander got for me! Ain't he sweet?

Now the important stuff.

FIRST GRADE! FIRST GRADE! Can you believe it?

Why he picked a backpack that is half his size, I'll never know. Wait, I do know - "cause it has lots of pockets and a couple of extra little cases the you can clip to it." Still, it's HUGE.

American Heroes

Set to Adiemus, by Enya. Produced by Kris McKenna, a Deputy Sheriff for Somerset County, ME.

Say Thanks!

Here they are.

Here are my crowns.

The smiley face was put on a couple of years ago. The paw print was put on last week. I don't like it as well as the face. A different person made it. I would have made the pad smaller and the toes a little bigger.

banner

I made this new banner background for my blog and if I ever figure out how to get it up there...I'm golden!

If it's not one thing...

I just broke my chair at work.

(I don't know the proper terms for chair parts, so bear with me.)

I had a really nice (when it was new six years ago!) high-back, leather, executive chair (the best chair $79 will buy!) that I had to swap with a different, not-quite-as-good chair because the leather chair wouldn't slide under the desk unless I dropped it down and then it felt like I was squatting to do my work. The lesser chair worked okay because I could adjust the arms independent of the seat. Downside? It didn't have a high back. So no leaning back in the chair with my feet on my desk thinking executive thoughts.

This morning, I was trying to lean back in my chair and it wouldn't lean at all! I got down on the floor and saw that the back of the chair was adjustable and it was adjusted all the way down so the metal thingie was hitting the legs and not letting the chair recline. I unscrewed the big screw thingie and lifted the back waaayyy up. Woot! But then? I screwed the big screw thingie back in, sat down, reclined back and CRACK! The thing that holds the metal thingie on the back broke. Great.

I went down to our big room of storage and found a high-backed, not-leather chair and wheeled it down to my office. Good news? I can slide it under the desk without squatting. Bad news? It squeaks. Every-stinkin'-time I move. Squeak. Squeak.

In other news...

Guess who the Commander got to meet? George Jefferson! How cool is that? He was singing with the Army bands the other night and the Commander was the official Army representative, complete with VIP seating along with some U.S. Consulate people. Sherman came out and chatted with them before the show and then they got to go backstage after the concert.

Last, but not least...

Happy Birthday Kendall.

I miss seeing you and James having your smokes every morning when I come around the corner of your building. The morning after the crash, I didn't want to walk around that corner, but I knew that I had to. It was very hard. James was still there. We hugged. And cried. And cried some more.

Little things remind me of you. Kool Super Longs and chickens mostly. I still yell, "TAKE A PICTURE OF MMME!" and crave the Supah Longs when I have a beer.

I had a really hard time with you dying. I didn't want to go to your service. But while I was there, I saw E.B. and Donna in the narthex and E.B. said, "That crazy Kendall." and things changed. That was it in a nutshell. Crazy Kendall. You would go and so something like that. It lightened my heart.

So today, on what would have been your 44th birthday, I wipe the tears from my eyes and say, "Chickens *still* make lousy housepets."

Busy as a bee? That would be me.

1) We are getting ready to have a GROJ Sale (Gettin' Rid Of Junk) a week from Saturday.

The Commander is coming home next week for a few days to go through the garage, the shed, and the little barn. Man stuff.

I have been going through the house and taking all of the "where did we get this?", "why do we have this?", and "do I really need this?" stuff to the dining room to be priced.

The boys are going through their stuff (slowly).

In a nutshell, we have a lot of crap. Good crap, but still crap.

2) My family reunion is coming up in a few weeks. We are going, once again, to Possum Kingdom Lake down in Texas. I need to sit down and figure out what all I need to pack - towels, pots and pans, food, drink, clothes, swim suits, swim shoes, life jackets, games, activities, movies, stuff for the auction (we usually hand make things and then auction them off to pay for the community building we rent), stuff for bingo prizes...what am I forgetting? The place we stay has new owners and, woohoo!, they now rent paddle boats! I'm just called down there and reserved a paddle boat and a golf cart.

3) I've bought our plane tickets for me and the boy to fly down to see the Commander over fall break! I'm taking a week off of work and taking the boy out of school for three days.

The Rolling Stones are playing down there that week. The Commander wants to go. He mentioned spending up to $125 dollars or so a ticket and I scoffed. Ha! Maybe for Harry Connick, Jr., but the Stones? How many Geritol and Ensure breaks do they have during the show? Oh well, I'd go just to say I saw them and to support the Commander in his happiness.

So, what are you up to?

(My car was base. You should see the little hand prints all over the side.)

Who Knew?

Go to Wikipedia and type your birthday in the search box (not the year). Find 1 significant death, 2 significant births, an interesting event or two, and a holiday/observance.

Death

Maria Pia de Saxe-Coburg-Gotha-Braganca (b. 1907)

(Maria Pia bo bia bananafana fo fia fe fi mo mia, Pia.)

Births

1868 - Gaston Leroux, French writer (d. 1927)

(I just like the name Gaston. It makes me go "Hoh Hoh Hoh" in a terrible French accent.)

1574 - Pope Innocent X (d. 1655)

Interesting Event or Two

1937 - Hindenburg disaster: The German zeppelin Hindenburg catches fire and is destroyed within a minute while attempting to dock at Lakehurst, New Jersey. Thirty-six people are killed.

(This is the one event I tend to work into conversations about birthdays.)

1954 - Roger Bannister becomes the first person to run the mile in under four minutes.

(Why?)

Holiday/Observance

St. John in Oil Feast day.

(No idea who St. John in Oil is, but he sounds fun.)

Dentistry hurts

Some of you may not know this, but I have a smiley face inlaid on one of my crowns. I've had it for a couple of years. My dentist actually stomped his foot and said (very firmly), "I WILL NOT PUT A SMILEY FACE ON YOUR TOOTH!" I would now like to refer you back to my first sentence. He ended up apologizing. He told me that he takes his work very seriously. Jolly for him, but since the Commander doesn't want me getting another tattoo (Oh yeah, I have one of those as well. I've actually lived longer with it than without it.), I decided to decorate my teeth. If I had made this decision a long time ago, I could have a small art gallery in my mouth by now.

Well, guess what? On the 9th of August, I'm getting my new crown COMPLETE with a paw print. I'm getting it in memory of my Tabby Cat. He tried to talk me out of it, but again, my mouth, my teeth, my money. I'll try to get a photo of them posted here if anyone wants to see them.

I have had the temporary crown on since Tuesday and MY MOUTH ACHES LIKES NOBODY'S BUSINESS!!!!! I have been popping Tylenol (Sorry liver. Oh, and, uh, sorry about all of the alcohol as well.) like crazy. I think I need to call him and let him take a look at it. I can handle most pain, but tooth and ear pain sucks.

On the bright side, I installed a ceiling fan yesterday.

We went to my BFF's house yesterday for her daughter's birthday and BFF showed me the fan they had bought and said her husband had started on it, but it was hard/complicated/difficult/etc. So I told her I would do it.

First off, I had her run an extension cord into the bedroom and plug in a lamp so we could see. Her husband ended up walking into the front room and telling everyone that we were one up on him in just doing that! I had never put up a ceiling fan before, but it wasn't as hard as I thought. (Except when I tossed a screw into my mouth to hold it and somehow managed to lodge it under my tongue.) BFF was my helper-outer. We just followed the directions and there ya go. One installed ceiling fan. I told her hubby he had to come mow my lawn, but I'm not holding my breath. heheheheheh

Side note to Goob - The Pirates We Could Have Been shirts are available up to size XXXL.

These boots are made for walkin' motorcycle ridin'

Guess what I bought? I'll give you a hint...

Woot! Stylin' Baby! I have been looking for a pair of buck suede boots to match my suede, fringe-y, embroidered, Harley-Davidson jacket. Now I got a pair!

Jealous?

Yeah, I didn't think so.

P.S. The orange is *way* more orange than it looks in the photo.

Who Cares? Post 'cause my shoulder hurts.

I recently was asked about my laundry habits. Mainly, do I sort by color or weight.

I go by color mostly. Followed by type.

Jeans (or any other denim)
Darks (non-jeans)
Lights
Whites (including white towels)
Colored towels
Sheets

What about your own bad self? Not that I really care, but just for the sake of conversation.

(How was that for the most rockingest post ever?)

Jim. You know. What's his name? That guy. With the Hot Pockets...

What is making it so I can not remember Jim's last name?

There ya go.

"Well ya see, Norm, it's like this... A herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo. And when the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members.

In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Excessive intake of alcohol, as we know, kills brain cells. But naturally, it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine."

Amen Brother.

So, did you watch? Please tell me you did. PeeWee's Playhouse reruns started last Monday! Woot. I recorded it and made the boy watch it with me. He had pretty much the same look on his face then as he did when he watched The Who's "Tommy".

It was just as funny as I remembered.

Me - See the chair he is sitting on?
Boy - Yeah.
Me - Do you know what its name is?
Boy - No.
Me - Chairy! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Boy - ????

The word of the day was "Help".

PW - Help!
Me - AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!
PW - Help!
Me - AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!
Boy - ?????

Jambi - Mekalekahi Mekaheinieho.

Back the truck up - updated

See this?

Notice that it no longer says "Three months and one week". That's right. They're keeping him another year.

Me and the boy were going to move down there, but things are so up in the air, we don't know now.
- Can I get a leave of absence from work? Nope.
- We can't get housing until he gets written orders.
- School starts in five weeks.
- Can we get written orders and housing before school starts?
- How long 'til I snap?

Waaaaaaah.

Waaaaaaiiiitttttt!

I was sitting in Minnesota, in the family room, using my laptop to make a photo DVD for the in-laws when the kids came running in from the backyard yelling, "ICE CREAM! ICE CREAM!"

Me - Wha?
BB - ICE CREAM!
Me - Where?
BB - OUTSIDE!
BS - COMING DOWN THE STREET!
Me - YOU MEAN THE PINKY-DINKY MAN?!
Them - YES!

I throw down gently place the laptop on the floor and make a mad dash for the front door. (And if you know me, you know that I rarely mad dash anywhere.)

YES! It was the Pinky-Dinky man! The boys ran down the sidewalk trying to get his attention while I ran (right) quickly strolled behind them yelling, "DON'T GET IN THE STREET!". ('Cause the Pinky-Dinky man makes you lose all sense of responsibility when you are younger than 18.) The truck backed up and we stared glassy-eyed at the goodness that is the Pinky-Dinky man. Should I get a snowcone? A fudge bomb? Eskimo pie? Decisions, decisions.

BS got a watermelon pop, BB got a ice cream sandwich, and I got a fudge pop, no, wait, a watermelon pop, no...okay, I'll go with the watermelon.

Best of all? BS paid for it!

Score!

(What do you call the ice cream man? I've always called him the Pinky-Dinky man. I don't know why.)

BTW - The truck was playing Beethoven's Fur Elise. Gotta give 'em a little culture with their ice cream.

Ya, you betcha.

Hey ho! We're in Minne-snow-ta visiting the Commander's family.

Here is the youngest, McTavish.

We got an early start to the 4th festivities.

Slackers Vacationers.

The Commander and I are headed down to his hometown in Iowa tomorrow to look at some vacation home prospects. Is this Heaven? No, it's Iowa.

We really don't know right now what is going on with his job yet. He still hasn't heard if his deployment is being extended for another year or not. Hurry up and wait. I would say the not knowing is driving me crazy, but it is a short walk.

It's that time of the year again.

Summer can only mean one thing. Peaches! Fresh from the tree. A few friends and some family went out this morning and picked (and ate) peaches. Yummers.

Below is a slide show of our goings-on. Bright Boy took a bunch of the photos. Enjoy.

There's no sound so hum to yourself.

sweet CORRECTION! Correction!

Nope, a whole stick is what you need. And this time I used an 11oz pack of chocolate and peanut butter chips. (Not the swirls.) Mmmmmmm dee-lish.

(I just made a test batch and realized I needed 1/2 stick butter not a whole one! A whole one will work, but the base layer isn't as sticky-togethery as it should be. I'll make another batch tomorrow with 1/2 stick and let you know. I also used a whole 10oz. bag of chocolate/peanut butter swirl chips and it was just right. So far, the family (*cough* Bonus Son *cough*) has eaten a butt load of them. Now I must go have another. Peace out.)

I'm making these for our par-tay at work Thursday. My Papa used to have me make them for him everytime we got together so I'm naming them for him.

Papa Byrd's Peanut Butter Cup Cookies

1/3 box cinnamon graham crackers, crushed
1 cup peanut butter
1 stick butter, melted
2 cups powdered sugar

Mix well and press into a 9 X 13 inch pan.

Melt 1 package of chocolate chips (I use milk chocolate. You use whatever you want.) and spread on top. Chill in fridge until the chocolate is firm enough to cut into bars. Return to fridge to harden chocolate and then enjoy. Keep the leftovers (if there are any) in the fridge.

Very rich, but Oh. So. Good.

Let me know if you make them and what you think.

Who are you people and what have you done with my family?

The Commander came home last night for a couple weeks vacay.

This morning he and BB brought me breakfast in bed.

I had mixed emotions about it.
1 - WooHoo! Breakfast in bed!
2 - Ack. I'm sleeping here. Come back later.

(I went with #1 so no feelings were hurt.)

Question.

If, instead of talking to your plants, you yelled at them, would they still grow, only to be troubled and insecure?

Wednesday, June 21, 2006

We're waaalking. We're waaalking.

While my computer is processing some horrible, vile, putrid, gastro-intestinal projectile hurling, cattle video, I thought I would catch you up on what's been happening around here.

Not much.

So, thanks for playing and come back soon!

As you know, I went to a real, theater-sittin' movie last Friday (BTW - Pay no attention to the "professional reviewers". They have all slammed the movie.). Saturday we did as little as possible and Sunday we went over and saw my mom and dad. (Note to self: Don't go to Bass Pro Shop on Father's Day.) Monday was liquor store and league bowling night. Last night I cooked (!) meatloaf, garlic mashed potatoes, and green beans and then we hopped in the pool for a while. (I know! How more thrilling can my life be?)

But this morning? Excitement! I woke up before the alarm went off (I know!) and in my sleepy, 20/800 eyesight impaired, haze, I saw a big blob of something on the wall. Wazzat? I sat up and squinted to about 20/600 and thought, "That's not on the wall, that's HANGING DOWN FROM THE CEILING!" OMG! The hugest spider ever was hanging down from my ceiling about four feet away from me! Aaaackkkkk! I grabbed my glasses off the nightstand, slapped them on my face and WOOHOO! not a spider, but a badly placed peacock feather winking at me.

Nice way to wake up, wouldn't you say?

(A friend of mine recently went to Quebec City for a conference and brought me back a couple of pieces of candy he picked up at the registration desk. The are little, maple-leaf shaped candies and are yum-to-the-me. Sadly, not readily available in Oklahoma. Any peeps up toward the north that can lay your hands on some of these tasty treats or know where to get some?)

Wanna come to my room and have some toast?

Last night, another mom picked the kids up to take them to VBS. I took mondo advantage of this and partied like it was my birthday. Okay. Not really. But I did go out.

One of my best buds and I had Español night.
First - Taco Bell. (We consider that "our" place and sit in the same booth everytime. We're dorks like that.)
Second - Nacho Libre!

I had been watching Jack Black's podcasts so I knew the movie would be funny, but I didn't realize just how funny it would be. I laughed so hard I had tears running down my face. I had to take my glasses off repeatedly to wipe the tears off. Plus, I found that as I get older, I tend to snort more when I laugh. My friend says he has noticed he does that as well, so I was in good company. Luckily everyone was laughing so loud, I don't think our snorts were noticed much. There was a slight problem with the alignment of the film and the top of the frame was cut off for 10 minutes or so and when we left, the manager was standing there apologizing for the technical difficulties. He handed us little coupons and said the next movie is on them. Bonus!

I give Nacho Libre! two snaps up and will definately be purchasing the DVD.

Why can't we have VBS every Friday?

Wednesday, June 14, 2006

Oooops! heheheheheh

So I pick up BB and his friend Red from Snob Hill Day School* and take them to eat before dropping them off at VBS. I called Red's mom and was talking to her while the kiddies were eating.

RM - Let me know when you need your lawn mowed and I'll come over and do it for you.
Me - Okay. I'll bring the liquor.
RM - Ha ha ha!
Me - I'm down to one Hard Cider. Maybe I'll drop the kids off at church and head to the liquor store.
Us - Ha ha ha!

Later that same day...

I get the kids to church and am standing in the fellowship hall with some other folks waiting for the kids to finish their cokes so they can go into the Sanctuary.

BB - Mom? Are you going back to your office?
Red - No. She's going to the liquor store! Aren't you going to the liquor store?
Me - Ack. Errrr. Ehem. Uh. No. Heheheh. I was just teasing your mom. Heh.

Geez.

*Not its real name, but it might as well be. (I got into a "discussion" with the wife of one of the University's football coaches on why she couldn't park where she parked because it BLOCKED THE DRIVEWAY FOR THOSE OF US WHO PARK IN THE PARKING LOT WHERE WE ARE SUPPOSED TO AND NOT IN THE STINKING DRIVEWAY BECAUSE WE DON'T FEEL THAT WE ARE JUST A SKEENCH BETTER THAN EVERYBODY ELSE! And by discussion I mean as much of an argument I felt I could get into while I escorting three small kids to my car. She was the one yelling at me that she could park anywhere she wanted. Oddly enough, she never got out of her Stupid User Vehicle the whole time she's yelling this at me. PLUS, I'm standing a good 10 feet from her vehicle and she tells me, "And don't you come up on me like that!" I guess she has a little larger personal space than most people. So I tell the kids, "Come on, kids. Let's go back in." and we turn around to go back into the building to tell the director about this crazed woman in the parking lot when said crazed woman pulls out of the drive, turns back into the parking lot, drives all the way through the parking lot and parks down along the edge of the building. Now she is not blocking the drive, but she is having to walk waaay farther than she would have if she would have just parked in a stinking parking space! Hey, whatever floats your boat, lady.) I'm surprised those "B" word women don't just park under the portico and toot their horn and have someone walk their kid out to the car.

The Teeth! They're Dropping Like Flies!

Yesterday, I answer my phone at work.

Bright Boy - Mom! Guess what? My other tooth fell out!
Me - How did it fall out?
BB - Pretty much the same way the other one did.
Me - Wrestling?
BB - Yeah. Can you call Dad?

My heart melted a gajillion times after I got home yesterday. I love him.

He is *so* cute with his teeth out. And his temporary speech impediment is cracking me up. I had him say, "Sister Susie sitting on a thistle." He did pretty good until the thistle part.

Hahahahahah. Quick! Where's the dog. We need to get some more of those goofy photos of him. Cooper! Coo...uh, never mind...

Stuff and such

1. What childhood vacation do you remember the most fondly?
Wow. There are a few that stand out. We used to cram everything in our Chevy Nova and off we would go. But the standy-outy-est is probably the time we stayed in Denver for a month or so while my Dad was going to a school for his company. There were two other families who were there for the same reason and they both had kids around my age. We lived at the pool. One night, this guy we had met while we were there offered to take all of the kids (six of us) across the street to a restaurant for a coke. The parents said okay and off we went. But we decided to go down the road a bit to the arcade. Not a good idea. The moms came looking for us and when they didn’t find us, they started to freak. No one in the restaurant had seen a guy come in with six kids. There was a cop in the parking lot and they told him what was going on and he called in a “possible kidnapping”. Zoinks. Not a good thing to say in front of three already freaking out moms. (Why would someone kidnap six kids anyway?) The moms put their heads together and finally thought of the arcade place. Sure enough, there we were. My mom was livid with the guy. (Looking back, I don’t blame her.) To make up for his error, he took the moms to the bar in the hotel and they stayed out most of the night. Krazee. Also in Denver, I heard the song “Funkytown” for the first time and watched “Grease” on HBO 13 times. Of course I held up my cassette recorder to the speaker of the TV to record the songs. After Dad finished that school, he was sent to one in Columbus, Ohio. He drove there by himself while my mom and I flew out to California to visit her family. Then we flew out to Ohio and met up with Dad. I had my first Shirley Temple drink in Ohio. After that school, we loaded up and drove to Pittsburgh, PA to visit one of the families we hung out with in Denver. He is Polish and she is Italian. Small town me was not very impressed with big town Pittsburgh. 22 houses on one block and you could barely walk between them. How is that fun? But the Polish/Italian food rocked! Piled back in the car and drove down to Tennessee to visit my Dad’s family then back home. Good times.

2. How many colors has your hair been?
Naturally brown. Brown with a blonde streak down he middle. Black. Chocolate Peanut Butter (Garnier Nutrisse). Currently brown. For some reason, my hair turned from its natural brown to a wonky ash black color. ????? So I color it back to brown.

3. Would you rather be placed in a tub filled with water snakes or covered with ants?
Snakes. I actually had an ant bite me last night and it hurt. I can deal with snakes. Small critters, not so much.

4. Are you camp Jessica or camp Nick?
Nick. He’s hot.

5. Do you have a swimming pool? Can we come over?
Yes and yes. Bring snacks. And pick up some hard cider on your way.

6. Salty or sweet?
Mmmmmmm. Both.

7. When did you last get a kiss?
Yesterday from the boy. More than a month from a grown-up human man person.

8. Do you play a musical instrument?
Nope. Wish I could.

9. What's your favorite kind of weather?
Fall. Cool. Rainy/cloudy. Good sitting on the porch swing with some French Vanilla Cappuccino, a good book, and a kitty cat in your lap weather.

10. What are you wearing right now?
A black ribbed tank top with a black, tan, and maroon whispy blouse type thingie over it, black jeans, a pair of the Commander’s black Nike socks, and what I refer to as my nurses’ shoes (black, clunky-heeled mules). This is what I call my “fancy clothes”. I’m usually in blue jeans and a casual top with tennis shoes, but we have someone coming in to assess our unit at work today.

Can I call Dad?

Sniff. And my two front teeth were really loose, but I was gonna be patient and let them just come out like I did the others, but me and Brother were wrestling and he hit me and my tooth came out and I started crying and went running to Mom and told her what happened and asked if it would ever quit bleeding and she said yes, but it hurts. Sniff.
(If you click to bigify, you can even see the tear in his right eye.)

Fun with Cooper to ease the pain.

Rabbit ears!

Wha?

Listen, Lady. I don't care if they boy gets ALL of his teeth knocked out next time, those poses are humiliating. And don't you even think about blogging them, you hear me? I mean it. Don't you dare.

Tru Dat

Take this test at Tickle

Your movie mom match is My Big Fat Greek Wedding's Maria Portokalos

Maria Portokalos may not have been the focus of the movie, but that's the only way she would have had it. You, like Maria, are the backbone of your family, but you do it without ever wanting to be the center of attention. You know what we're talking about — your kids always seek out your well-thought-out and sincere advice, and your husband knows who really wears the pants in your house.

You consider motherhood a delicate balancing act — you're strong and tough when necessary, but it's tempered with love and respect. Fiercely loyal, you always act with your family's best interest at heart. And that's just the way you want it.

Which Movie Mom Are You?

Bless you, child. Here's $100.

Little did I know when we moved into our house seven years ago? A former Mrs. Stillwater title holder lived right next door. Luckily, she's not like most slender, blonde-haired, ample-bosomed females I have encountered. No smugness what-so-ever. (It is real funny to watch The Commander suck in his gut whenever he sees her outside. Hi Commander!!) Her and her husband have two kids, a 8-yo boy (Polite Pete) and a 6-yo girl (Chatty Kathy). (Names changed to protect the innocent.)

Tonight I was out front catching fireflies with Bright Boy when the kiddos came over and started playing with us. BB ran over to the hammock and yelled, "MAKE ROOM FOR MY BIG, FAT MOM!" CK proceeded to set him straight (bless her ever-lovin' heart), "She's not fat. MY mom's fat."

It brought a tear to my eye.

Now all three are snuggled down in the front room watching a movie and drifting off into peaceful, firefly-filled sleep.

I think I'm going to go have some ice cream.

Yeah, I know.

I know. I know. I missed doing the Thursday Thirteen. I thought about it, but I just couldn't think of 13 interesting things to post. I had to drive a co-worker to the Tulsa Airport in the torrential downpour yesterday morning and it pretty much threw my whole day off. I had stayed at work until after 10pm the night before helping him with his presentation materials for the conference he was going to and then I had to get up early to go pick him up and drive him to the airport so my brain wasn't cooking on all four burners.

Sue me.

Anywho...here are 13 random photos to make up for it. Enjoy.
